boulder denver trip and my new bike…

sorry that i was not able to blog from the road… first i spent all the time driving as amber held miles in her lap the whole way… this will be the last big trip miles goes on with us… it is a pain in the ass to deal with having a dog when you have to stay out late at night djing… he travels well, it was just a little to much this time… second it was hard to find open wireless… apparently in boulder that shit is on lock down everywhere, so i would access for a minute here and there… kind of found it a little weird…

we got into boulder in the early afternoon and went to our friend zuk’s… he was kind enough to let us use his place for staying, while he house sit for someone else… it was kind of funny, had no clue where he lived he just said between 2 streets on 16th… right where i pulled over to try to call him was right where he lived… the stencil below is a piece of art on his dojo…

so after our hellos and such we headed to pearl street for some friday afternoon happy hour beers and burgers… we went to west end tavern… the burgers were great, the beer was awesome!! we got to sit on the deck on the top of the place and the view was sweet!!

we tooled around for the evening, stopping by a funk cover band rocking out behind a posh hotel… cant remember the name of the place, but a lot of cougars on the prowl… we also stopped by the russian tea room to peep out the art and architecture of the building… apparently it was sent in pieces from its original location in russia… we got to bed fairly early as we wanted to be able to wake up early and start exploring… oh yeah i forgot we also made our first visit to tonic.. it is an oxygen bar that serves herbal mixtures that either open your mind or relax you and a whole lot more.. i got some tincture that went on my tongue called flight, and then drank a tea called comfortably numb, both did the trick well… i was in outer space and when i slept my dreams were super vivid..

saturday morning is time for the farmers market… boulder has some remarkable flowers, for sale at their market, i should of taken some photos of them, but we took the dog with us, and there was a little to much going on there for him to remain calm… we ended up having coffee and breakfast there… the coffee was much needed… we ended up eating at a street booth for a place called tres something or other.. it had my name so it was a winner… cant even remember what we got but it was the bomb.. picture below is what we got… it had chorizo and eggs mixed in with the corn bread like patty…

we took the dog back to the dojo so that we could go walking on pearl street.. it was fun, i couldnt find anything i wanted all that much… amber got a bracelet and some shoes… we spent a lot of time saturday walking around, checking out different stores…

close to zuk’s we ended up finding this cool stencil on a wall, and i think it was done in the night while we were there, because we walked by the spot a few times and never saw it, and then saturday there it was… around pearl street i was surprised not to see a bunch of street art… i guess boulder is only sort of progressive…

well as we got into the evening it was time to head to denver where we went to brett starr’s and linda’s pad.. we went to vegetarian restaurant called watercourse… it was without a doubt the best vegetarian food i have ever had!!! if you go to denver definitely have it!!! we met our friends lan and josh there too…

after that we headed to the party spot where i was playing with the tree house collective and atnarko… i have to say that they throw a damn good party in denver!!! the place had the right number of heads for the place to go off.. it was hot as shit and people were getting down like there was no tomorrow… the photo below is of linda and me…

we got back to zuk’s at like 4 am, and into bed… got a few hours sleep and then out into the day again… we were starting to get tired, so we went to tonic to suck in some oxygen… it was great, gave us an bunch of energy, so we headed up to nederland in the car… there is a sweet skate park up there on the edge of a lake, was a beautiful setting watching kids skate…

sunday night amber and i went out for a really nice meal at centro latin restaurant, and had shrimp fritters, duck and veggie tacos, and pineapple cobbler… dinner was the bomb!!

on monday i went to the holy grail of kidrobot, they have their corporate headquarters there, and holy shit they have every piece they have ever made up in there… i was kind of thinking that they should be a little more inviting… but i guess some geek coming in on monday morning that supports your company is scary…

the drive home was nothing to write home about, but we decided to get bikes when we got home, so that we could start going for rides together… i used to ride a lot, i pretty much quit soon after i moved back to the midwest as it is really boring to ride a mountain bike on a city paved trail… on tuesday we went to a bunch of shops and found amber a janis crossover bike, and got me a se draft lite fixed gear bike… it has a switchable hub and i still have it on the cruiser side… i need to either flip the wheel myself or take it back to scheels to get the wheel done for me(its free)… it is a totally sweet ride, but i already want to start to change some things on it to pimp it out a little more than it already is… make fun of me but i would like to have pink components to make it all pop…

i missed the getting acquainted with a new bike… its kind of like a bonding experience when a biker gets a new bike… especially if that biker hasn’t ridden in awhile… all i want to do is ride… so i will be looking for peeps to ride with around the city on fixed gear bikes, so if you have one and want to ride, let me know i am down!!!

i will leave you with a photo of me with the bike… thanks for taking the time to read this!!
